New Applied Science Teaching Labs have opened in Building 14 as part of the pre-New Academic Street construction works.

Project: Applied Science Teaching Labs, Building 14

Architect: John Wardle

Commenced: 30 January 2015

Completed: 15 May 2015

The labs’ fit-out includes standard chemistry equipment such as hotplates, glassware, ovens, and small bench top analysis fittings. There are also various physics practical experiment kits, including an X-ray analysis unit, used for performing basic X-ray diffraction experiments.

Angela Crawford, School Manager, School of Applied Sciences said the modern teaching spaces were a clear improvement on labs the space replaces.

“We’ve had overall positive feedback from users. Student and staff like the modern feel of the teaching spaces.” She said.

The level 5 spaces, used by various Bachelor of Science and postgraduate research programs, have facilities for demonstrating areas of physics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, optics and material properties.
