Virtual reality technology has progressed rapidly over the last few years. What better way is there to connect with the subject matter of a documentary than by immersing yourself in their world?

As part of a work integrated learning (WIL) course in Strategic Media Project (Master Media and Communication) a team of students, Abdul Maghram and Bessie Bian, are developing a short NAS virtual reality (VR) documentary.

In partnership with the NAS media and communication team, it will be shot over the course of a week using a series of complex camera set-ups that allow for 360-degree filming of the new spaces in the NAS building. Students researched, contextualised and managed the project while considering contemporary media directions and issues.

Students devised leadership strategies and applied skills for collaborative and individual work while also troubleshooting production problems and posing solutions as part of the student experience on the project. Capturing NAS will premier at the CelebrateRMIT event on 20 September in the Work Integrated Learning Showcase space (adjacent to RMIT Connect). You will be able to experience a virtual tour of the NAS precinct using a mobile device and VR headsets without stepping out of the building.
